Apple announced a next-generation iPad Pro with the M1 chip, 5G support and a MiniLED display earlier this year. However, the new screen technology has so far been reserved exclusively for the 12.9-inch model. Trusted analyst MingChi Kuo, says that both the 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro will have a MiniLED panel in 2022.
According to Kuo, Apple has invested in more MiniLED display vendors to bring the technology into more products. with a MiniLED screen was the 12.9-inch iPad Pro that was introduced earlier this year. For those who are not used to it, MiniLED relies on thousands of really small LEDs in the backlight, resulting in higher contrast ratios and Deeper Blacks, similar to OLEDs.
Since this technology is more expensive, Apple only adopted it this year for the 12.9-inch iPad Pro; However, the analyst believes that adding more MiniLED display vendors will lower the cost of the component and help the company build more devices with the new display. With the next-gen iPad Pro, the smaller 11-inch model will also have a MiniLED display.
Kuo’s report also confirms that the 2022 iPad Pro will likely keep the same screen sizes as the current generation, which are 11 and 12.9 inches. Last month’s report claimed that Apple created a redesigned iPad Pro with a glass back, but it’s unclear whether Apple will actually adopt the new design in 2022. but Kuo thinks we shouldn’t expect this next year.
The analyst reiterated that Apple will launch new MacBook Pro models with MiniLED displays later this year and that the same technology will arrive on the MacBook Air next year.
